Keep thinking about how much I enjoy how hard Midnight Mass leans into the whole BE NOT AFRAID thing about angels — so hard that it leans right through to the other side and subverts the angel concept entirely. Angels always say be not afraid, ergo angels must be something horrifying, ergo you take someone with the right mindset, the right worldview, and you show them something horrifying, and, well, there’s wings and I most certainly DO be afraid, ergo… angel!

It’s just such a refreshing and character-driven way to frame and interpret a vampire; the skewed understanding that drives the plot is possible only through Pruitt’s own particular psychology and biases. Also: very sexy of a narrative to hold a mirror up between two such seemingly different types of supernatural beings.
